1. Emlen Physick Estate

An 18-room Victorian mansion built in 1879, Emlen Physick Estate shows the lifestyle of the Physick family. You can bring a bag lunch to the Lunch & Learn series to hear talks on popular topics of history, culture, science and the arts. “Margaret’s Diary During a Revolution” will be held on March 18.

 

2. Battleship New Jersey Camden

Guided Tours: $40 for adults, $15 for children
Self-Guided Tours: $30 for adults, $5 for children

Battleship NJ was active during World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. There are plenty of guided tours and immersive experiences. And while overnight stays are often held for kids, an adults-only overnight will be held on April 4.

 

3. Historic Cold Spring Village

The 1800’s come to life at this open-air living museum. Historically clothed interpreters demonstrate trades of the time. The season begins in May.

 

4. Burlington County Prison Museum

Mt. Holly | $5 adults; $2 students

You can take a self-guided tour of the prison cells, including “the dungeon,” the exercise yard where executions were held and the warden’s house next door. Audio tours are available for $3, and an escape game is available for $10/case.

 

5. Batsto Village

Hammonton

The 18th- and 19th-century village – with over 30 historic buildings – portrays life in early America. Check out the historic post office, which is still in operation. The annual antique show will be held on May 17, and the country living fair is on Oct. 18.

 

6. Barclay Farmstead

Cherry Hill

This is an 1816 farmhouse surrounded by nature trails and Plant-A-Patch garden plots. Public tours are available on Wednesdays from noon to 4 pm.

 

7. Whitesbog Historic Village

Browns Mills

On this historic cranberry and blueberry farm, there are 3,000 acres of trails, bogs, creeks and forests. Visit restored buildings from the village, founded in 1857. The General Store is open on weekends. Blueberry summer fest will be held on June 19, June 27, July 3 and July 11.

 

8. White Hill Mansion

The mansion, dating back to 1722, is currently under renovation, so visits are limited to guided tours only. Daytime history tours are offered on some Sundays. (The next one is March 29 at noon.) The special Living History Day with colonial reenactments, living history adventures, crafts and a scavenger hunt will be held on March 21, 11 am – 3 pm.
