The opportunities in the garden are endless…so where are we supposed to start?

Toni takes Marianne through the three most important things to think about when you’re choosing which crops to plant in your backyard garden.

🌱 Choose things that grow without a lot of work. Peas and beans are a great place to start for beginners.
🍽️ Plant what you eat. Think about your grocery cart, and fill your garden with the foods that fill your cart. If your family isn’t a big eggplant family, don’t waste space in your garden by growing it.
💊 Don’t forget about disease. (the ones that will affect your plants.) Some areas have extra common diseases or have pests that like to hang out and eat anything that grow. So if your backyard has one of those, be careful what you’re putting in the ground. (Ex: South Jersey has lots of tomato blight, so make sure to get blight-resistant tomato seeds)

Happy gardening!
