Things to do in South Jersey this August

Whether you’re craving outdoor festivals, family-friendly activities, delicious food events, or a relaxing day at the beach, South Jersey has something for everyone this month. 

 

Twins Contest 

August 6

Are we seeing double? No, that’s just the Ocean City twins contest, where participants compete for prizes for looking the most alike and least alike. The contest begins at 6 pm in front of the Music Pier, with registration beginning at 5:30. For more information, visit the website. 

 

National Lighthouse Day 

August 7 

Celebrate at great heights during Absecon Lighthouses annual festival to mark the national holiday. From 11 am to 3 pm, stop by for a petting zoo, pony rides, games, face painting and mermaid bubbles. Plus, kids 12 and under climb free all day. For more information, visit the website. 

 

Tattoo Beach Bash 

August 8 – 10 

Whether you’re fully tatted or thinking about getting your first ink, there’s something for everyone at Wildwood’s Tattoo Beach Bash. Check out live tattooing, contests, jaw-dropping body art displays, live entertainment and so much more at the Wildwoods Convention Center. The event runs from noon to 11 pm on Friday, 11 am to 11 pm on Saturday and 11 am to 8 pm on Sunday. Tickets cost $20 for one day or $40 for three days. For more information, visit the website. 

 

Nerd Fest 

August 10 

It’s a bird, it’s a plane…no, it’s Nerd Fest! Everything comic books, toys, manga, collectibles and more is coming to Swedesboro for a day of giveaways, artists, vendors and activities for the whole family. Willingboro Jazz Festival 

August 10 

Enjoy live performances from top jazz, soul, and R&B artists, food vendors, family fun, and a fireworks finale

 

Best of the Fest Arts Garage 

August 14 

An evening celebrating award-winning short films curated from past Garden State Film Festival editions. Kick off the night with a Sips & Treats reception at 6:30 PM, followed by the film screenings at 7 PM.

 

Family Fun Night 

August 16

An entirely free evening of outdoor fun for the whole community at the AWA campus: meet Marshall from PAW Patrol, enjoy face painting, take part in the interactive “Vet for a Day” pretend pet clinic, play lawn games, and sample tasty treats from food vendors. All activities benefit AWA’s mission to support animals in need.

 

Collingswood Crafts & Fine Art Festival

August 16 & 17 

Discover stunning handmade jewelry, ceramics, glass, paintings, wearable art, and more along lively Haddon Avenue. Explore Artist’s Alley on Irvin Avenue for emerging artists, live demos, free family craft activities, and interactive exhibits curated by the Perkins Center for the Arts. Enjoy light live music, delicious al fresco dining options, and support a great cause with the raffle benefiting Ronald McDonald House of Southern NJ

 

Summer of Love Music Festival 

August 23 

Get ready to groove into the end of summer with live retro tunes from AM Radio, Dancin’ Machine, and The Priceless Band. The festival features a beer garden, food trucks, artisan vendors, a kids’ zone, fun contests like hula-hoop and trivia, and wraps up with a Glow Party at 9 pm.

 

Gloucester Goes Pink

August 23 

Join your community for a meaningful morning of unity, awareness, and wellness. The festival features a 1.5‑mile pink walk & pet parade, over 75 vendors & crafters, food trucks, farmers market, free health screenings, and fitness classes like Pilates and Zumba. Proceeds benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

 

Beyond the Veil 

August 23 & 24 

Experience ghostly tales, presentations by paranormal investigators, and guided ghost tours. Explore the spiritual realm through workshops on medicinal herb gardens, essential oils, yoga, and breath-work sessions.

 

Car Show & Food Truck Festival

August 29 

An evening in Downtown Glassboro full of classic cars, live music, delicious food trucks,
and fun vendors.

 

Tomato Festival 

August 30

Celebrate the beloved tomato at this charming community festival featuring farm-fresh produce, handmade crafts, live music, and family-friendly fun. Proceeds benefit the West Cape May Shade Tree Commission.
