We’re on our way to Cape May, naturally. And there’s so much to do – so if you’re not sure where to start, check out these fun-filled spots you can’t miss.
See a movie on the beach
Grab a blanket and the family and head to the beach for a movie night in the sand. Cape May hosts free movies on the beach next to Convention Hall on Thursdays in July and August. The movie starts at 8:30 pm, and children’s activities are hosted starting at 8 pm. For more information and a list of movies, visit the website.
Live some history
Step into New Jersey’s past as reenactors bring history to life at Historic Cold Spring Village. Visit the blacksmith, the print shop, the ice cream parlor and more in the re-created rural town of “homespun era.” The village is open Tues. through Sat. from noon to 8 pm and Sundays from noon to 6 pm. For more information, visit the website.
History of freedom
Explore the stories of Harriet Tubman and fellow abolitionists who worked in Cape May to help enslaved people reach freedom. The Harriet Tubman Museum is open Wed. to Sat. from 11 am to 3 pm and Sundays from 2 to 3 pm. For more information, visit the website.
House hunting
Cape May’s architecture is almost as beautiful as its sandy beaches. Explore the historic buildings on your own or take a guided tour with Cape May MAC to see Victorian sites like the Emlen Physick Estate and the Painted Ladies (a row of pastel homes).
Go wild
Get a little wild with lions, giraffes, monkeys, zebra and more at the Cape May County Zoo. The zoo also offers special encounters like feeding the tortoises, and it hosts monthly yoga classes through the summer. There is also a zipline park. The zoo is open daily from 10 am to 4:30 pm. For more information, visit the website.
For the birds
Whether you’re a birding beginner or an avian addict, the Cape May Bird Observatory offers so many opportunities to see South Jersey’s wildlife. Plus, the site offers unique experiences like boat birdwatching, birding workshops and free guided birding walks. For more information, visit the website.
Cheers to Cape May brews
Taste everything from light brews to double IPAs with signature beers and salty air at Cape May Brewing Co. The tasting room and beer garden are open Sun. through Wed. from noon to 7 pm and Thurs. through Sat. from noon to 8 pm – plus, 4-packs, 6-packs and cases are available to purchase to-go. For more information, visit the website.
