Days are somehow better when they’re spent outdoors, so we’ve got some ideas of how you can spend your time outside – from rowing competitions to larger-than-life sculptures.

Row, row, row your boat

Ok, so you won’t be the one rowing. But on any given weekend along the Cooper River, the odds of watching a rowing race are high – and just as exciting. This season, the river’s regatta schedule is packed with riveting competitions like the 85th annual Dad Vail Regatta (May 11 & 12), the Cooper Cup (April 28) and the SRAA Nationals (May 23-25). A little history, a little shopping

Breathe in living history at Historic Smithville with reenactors, historic buildings, a town square and sweeping views across the lake. Wander over cobblestone walkways and foot bridges as you go shop to shop, and make sure you stop by for one of the village’s events this season, like the Galloway Art Festival on May 5 and Mayfest on May 18 and 19. Art in nature

What do you get when you pair artistic passion with the beauty of nature? South Jersey’s only art park. Spend the day at Grounds For Sculpture to explore 42 acres of larger-than-life sculptures, sculpture re-creations of famous paintings plus exotic plants and trees. The park also offers tours and special events like art classes and tai chi throughout the year. For more information, visit the website

Make some furry friends

When South Jersey’s wildlife gets injured, they often are transported to Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge to recover and sometimes become permanent residents – and you can visit them. Say hi to some adorable squirrels, resident turtles, a sweet skunk and so many more wild friends, and learn about their habitats, eating habits and recovery journeys. For more information, visit the website

Take a hike

Stretch those legs and breathe in tons of fresh air on one of South Jersey’s many hiking trails. Whether you’re exploring winding paths through marshlands or taking in vast lakeside views, there’s a trail for every occasion and every skill level. Check out some options here

Let’s play

Flex those imagination muscles with a morning at the playground. Captain a pirate ship, climb the tallest mountain, even perform an award-winning song on the bongos – all before lunch (or after, whatever fits with your schedule). Check out these South Jersey playgrounds to find your new favorite.

Jersey fresh

Did someone say food? We’re not sure what we love more, eating Jersey Fresh foods or cooking them. Ok, it’s probably eating them. But whether you’re looking for ready-to-go meals and snacks or need fresh ingredients for your favorite recipe, South Jersey farmers markets are a great place to start. Find a market near you here

Grab your helmet

As the temps rise, it’s time to grab your bike and take in the beautiful sights of nature through South Jersey. With paths through the Pinelands and trails along waterways, South Jersey bike trails come in a variety of difficulty levels, but always deliver a good time. Find a bike path near you here
