We’re trying to pack in as much fun as we can before the kids head back to school. (And maybe just a little learning while we’re at it too.)
Meet the cute, cuddly and feathery creatures that call South Jersey home – like Ember the red fox and Phoebe Muffay the striped skunk. Visit animals who have been rehabilitated, learn about their habitats and South Jersey nature, then explore the 3 miles of trails and the picnic play area.
Dec. 27
Explore the Battleship New Jersey on this hands-on tour designed especially for your small sailors 12-and-under. The tour includes a visit to the engine room and the gun turret and ends with a challenge for the kids. The tour starts at 10 am and tickets cost $15 for children and $5 for a parent/chaperone.
Visit Historic Smithville for a truly festive expedition – featuring a light show on the lake every day from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, a holiday train ride through the village ($3 per person), the magic talking tree and S’mores on the Greene from 5 to 8 pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in December.
Grab your skates – Winterfest is back. Glide around the ice under the stars in Cooper River Park. Admission is $7 for kids 4 to 12 and $9 for adults. Kids 3 and under are free. Skate rentals cost $6 for all ages.
Put your adventure cap on and get ready to dive into the world of dinosaurs. See larger-than-life recreations of the creatures that walked the Earth before us, get a peak at the research room where real-life paleontologists analyze fossils, play and learn in the discovery forest and take a turn at the virtual reality exhibit.
Visit your local library
There’s always something happening at your local library – and it’ll be free! This winter break, check in at your local branch for events like the LEGO challenge (Dec. 30, Evesham Library) and Bingo for Kids (Dec. 30, Bordentown Library).
