If you haven’t toured Paulsdale, the childhood home of suffragist Alice Paul, then we highly recommend you head there. Most people don’t know that the Alice Paul Institute has a lot to offer, along with daily tours of the historic house. Check out what else you can do at the site.

Celebrate 40 years

This year, Alice Paul Institute turns 40! And you can celebrate with them all year long with events including a leadership workshop in March, Women’s Equality Day Festival in April and a special gala in September.

Learn about Black women’s history of liberation

This month, Alice Paul Institute is hosting a virtual panel to explore Black women in history who have worked to liberate themselves and others, including Ona Judge, Hetty Reckless, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman and more. The program begins at noon on Feb. 29. To register, click here

Bring the whole class

All grade levels are welcome to explore Paulsdale, and the organization even offers specific programming for school classes. If you can’t bring the class to Paulsdale, Paulsdale can come to you. The org offers virtual field trips as well as renting out the exhibit Marketing the Movement, which outlines how New Jersey women have used branding, publicity, new technology and political protest to win the right to vote. Plus, API has lesson plans available for download for all school levels.

Become a leader

Alice Paul Institute is continuing to spread Alice Paul’s legacy of empowering women with its Girls Leadership Council, where female-identifying teens are invited to discuss issues related to gender equity, build community and develop their skills as advocates and leaders. Registration for new members opens on June 1, and you can learn more about the program here

Become an expert

You can help continue Alice Paul’s legacy by becoming a volunteer at Alice Paul Institute. With responsibilities including greeting guests, leading tours and helping with the site’s gift shop, volunteers become experts in Alice Paul’s life and help to educate and empower girls and women. Find more information about becoming a volunteer here
