The Eagles held their last training camp practice before their first preseason game of 2018 – the defending champs take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lincoln Financial Field Thursday night.
You will not see Carson Wentz or Nick Foles on Thursday night. Wentz is not cleared by team doctors yet for any kind of contact. And Foles has muscle spasms in his neck. Doug Pederson is being extra cautious with both.
So, the team will try to find some kind of early rhythm on offense with back-up quarterback Nate Sudfeld, who has looked up and down in training camp. His arm is strong, but you can see that the extra workload the last three days – no Foles and no Wentz in team drills – has started to wear him down a bit.
This is something that Pederson will have to monitor as the dog days of training camp continue in the jungle-like heat and humidity of South Philly. Indeed, Pederson sensed his team was near its limit on Tuesday. He did not have the players in full pads and cut practice a little short.
