New Jersey State Teacher of the Year Up for National Title

Amy Andersen, New Jersey’s 2018 State Teacher of the Year, is up for the title of National Teacher of the Year (NTOY).

The Ocean City High School American Sign Language teacher was announced as a finalist on Thursday along with three other candidates. The Council of Chief State School Officers website describes her style as one that “takes her students beyond the classroom and reinforces that every voice has a value.”

If Andersen is chosen (the results are announced in spring), she will be relieved of her teaching duties and spend the year traveling the nation as an NTOY speaker.
