New Jersey members of Congress are coming together to save the whales. In April, 9 New Jersey members of Congress, including Andy Kim and Donald Norcross, wrote to The White House urging the Biden Administration to take action to protect marine mammals, specifically addressing the crises affecting Humpback and North Atlantic right whales. The letter was in response to a recent uptick in incidents of dead whales washing ashore along the New Jersey coast.

New Jersey announced it will allocate $82 million from the Inflation Reduction Act for whale conservation efforts. The allocated funds will support strategies to prevent vessel strike deaths (when a whale is killed by colliding with a fishing vessel), whale tracking technology and on-demand fishing gear.
