“Miracle” has one of the best movie lines ever. “When you pull on that jersey, you represent yourself and your teammates, and the name on the front is a hell of a lot more important than the one on the back.” I say this to my kids all the time, as when you are a part of a team, don’t be selfish and dwell on a missed shot, let it go and get back to work. Your teammates are counting on you and want to take advantage of the next opportunity.
Kerianne Aub, Mount Laurel
“Yeah, well, sometimes nothin’ can be a real cool hand.” Paul Newman’s line from “Cool Hand Luke” when he beats everyone at poker with a nothing hand is what I use when I have to make something from nothing or if I am in a little over my head and need to keep my confidence level up.
Bill English, Bellmawr
I have soooo many movie quotes but the one I use the most is a grammar point. In “View from the Top,” Mike Myers, with his lazy eye gives us this classic line: “You put the wrong emPHAsis on the wrong syLLAble.”
Beth Knapp, Atco
I always reach to Sophia’s line from “The Color Purple.” “All my life I had to fight…” It’s applicable with any battle you are facing – particularly ones with teens and tweens!
Serena Franks, Berlin
I can’t tell you how many times my dad repeated this one “Rocky” quote: “It ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” He said it a million times – he even used his South Philly accent, which is where he grew up.
Rose Stanwick, Moorestown
“There’s no crying in baseball” When my kids were young and crying because they weren’t getting their way I would say it. So yes, I said it a lot. It may not have had the intended effect but it was entertaining to me every time.
Sonia Cohen, Cherry Hill
“We are going to need a bigger boat!” That’s from “Jaws.” I use it in any situation where I’m in over my head.
Andrew Sodicoff, Cherry Hill
One of my favorite movies is “Forrest Gump.” I love when Tom Hanks, with that drawl, says “Would you like a box of chocolates?” I use that line when someone stresses me out because chocolate has that soothing effect.
Selina Kanowitz, Voorhees
I always say, when people leave me, “Have fun storming the castle.” In case you haven’t seen one of the greatest movies of the ‘80s, that’s from “The Princess Bride.”
Marc Cohen, Evesham
“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.” That line from “The Godfather Part III” is my family life. Every time there’s drama in my family, and I think I have managed to escape the wrath, I somehow end up getting pulled back into it. I now answer the phone “Ok, what have I done this time?”
Catherine LaMonaca, Washington Township
When I was taking the New Jersey Bar Exam, for one of the essay questions I channeled Spider-Man and the line “With great power comes great responsibility.” I guess they liked it. I passed.
Sarah Kaplan, Voorhees
