On a tree-lined street in Haddon Heights, sits a very unique, very historic home that once served as a church and Sunday school in the 1950s. Today, the renovated 4-bedroom, 5 1/2 bath home recently sold for $1.9 million (in a town where median home prices are $465,000).
Why the high price tag? Take a look.

Renovations Inside & Out The open-concept kitchen, living and dining rooms were once the main worship area of the church. There are several original features that have remained, like pews that line a hallway, some light fixtures and tall, curved windows.

The building’s transformation began when the former owner purchased the property from the church in 2018. While the front of the home maintains a simple, unassuming facade, inside tells a different story. The Compass agents who just sold the property, Amanda Johnston and Michala Costello, both emphasized that the re-design was made with entertaining in mind. The sprawling first floor showcases original wood beams combined with chandeliers imported from Italy. And what was once a choir loft now serves as a mini game room.

The Lazy River One of the most surprising features on the property is just off the kitchen hallway, right past the brick patio – a man-made lazy river, which wraps around an island. A quaint bridge connects the island to the patio. Outdoor spaces also include a 3-car garage with additional living space on second floor and a full bath.
