My 5-year-old has shown me what joy looks like again. I had forgotten, and I didn’t even know. And she’s taught me a little Spanish!

It’s ok to wear whatever you want, no matter the season. Snow boots in the middle of July? You go, girl!

I took my 4-year-old son to the zoo and instead of looking at the animals, we studied the metal drain covers in the ground. We touched them and pulled on them. The giant animals all around us didn’t matter, so my expectations for the day went out the window. But it ended up being a day I’ll always remember. It taught me you don’t always need to pay attention to what’s obvious. There may be something much cooler if you just look around.

My eldest daughter taught me to know when “it’s enough.” Now I’m so much better at accepting when my adult kids can’t come over or must leave before I want them to. And it’s expanded to include knowing when I’ve had enough to eat, when I’ve made enough money. It’s a life-changing concept.

I find myself looking into the ingredients of the products I eat or drink now because my youngest son, who’s 24 and fresh out of college, takes eating very seriously and mine as well. He taught me how to better myself.

I’ve learned to put my phone down and be present with them. The time goes by so quickly – I don’t want to miss it.
