Weekends are for the girls – and we’ve got plenty of fun activities planned for our next girls’ weekend. Check them out!
Warning: you won’t want the weekend to end.
For the wine enthusiasts
Raise a glass to your girlfriends as you sip bright and bold flavors at wineries around South Jersey. And with the Wine Growers Association of New Jersey’s app, you can map out your wine trail. Choose your favorite wineries, find locations that feature live music and specialty tastings or make a list of women-owned wineries to cheers with your besties.
For the spooky sorts
In addition to Cape May’s beautiful architecture and breathtaking views along the Atlantic Ocean (plus some great sunbathing opportunities), Cape May MAC hosts a variety of tours that showcase the history and spooky stories of the elegant resort town. Take a trolley tour to hear ghost stories, attend a murder mystery dinner and even convene with spirits during a channeling dinner hosted by medium Craig McManus.
For the creatives
Get in touch with your creative side at one of the many art institutions in South Jersey. Admire unique, larger-than-life sculptures at Hamilton’s Grounds For Sculpture. Try your hand at making your own art at WheatonArts’ many classes including glassblowing, pottery and drawing. Or visit with local artists at Noyes Arts Garage, a studio center in Atlantic City where a number of artists display their work and demonstrate their methods.
For the performers
Make it a show-stopping weekend while you support local performers and do a little performing of your own (if you want, you can skip your own performance). Start of by finding your favorite kind of live performance: if you like musicals, check out the Broadway Theatre at Pitman or community theaters like the Moorestown Theatre Company and Voorhees Theater Company. For live music, check out the Scottish Rite Theater in Collingswood and any of these South Jersey restaurants.
And if you catch the performance bug, you can always stop by an open mic night – Perkins Center for the Arts in Moorestown hosts regular ones as does Camden’s Nuanced Cafe.
For the foodies
Let’s all be honest, besides the company, the food is the most important part of girls’ weekend. So why not do it right? South Jersey restaurants have something for everything – and make it easy to try a little of everything in one weekend. Head to Merchantville to dig into a meal that’s made completely with foraged ingredients at Park Place. Stop by the James Beard Award-winning soul food spot, Corinne’s Place, in Camden. And grab a bottle of wine on your way to Collingswood to dine at one of the BYOBs on restaurant row (Haddon Avenue).
Plus, if you’re looking to sharpen your cooking skills, try out one of ITA101’s cooking classes, where you can learn to make ravioli or gluten free pasta.
For the nature lovers
Hiking, fishing, biking, swimming, kayaking, exploring. You can do it all in South Jersey – and with a beautiful backdrop. Atsion Recreation Area is perfect for an afternoon by the lake and features kayaking along the Mullica River, plenty of birdwatching opportunities plus tours of the Atsion Mansion. A little further south in the Wharton State Forest, you’ll find Batsto Village, with lots of hiking trails, nearby picnic areas and kayaking on Batsto Lake.
