Move over Jurassic Park. The Edelman Fossil Park and Museum at Rowan University is delivering prehistoric fun and learning right in South Jersey. Here are 5 things to check out when you visit.
- Dinosaurs, duh
Have you ever seen a dinosaur fossil? How about a lot of them in one place? When you peek in on the active paleontology work going on at Rowan’s fossil park, you’ll get a look at a collection of fossils from millions of years ago like dinosaur bones, shark teeth and more.
2. No, seriously, roaming dinosaurs
Once you’ve seen the remains of life from millions of years ago, step into the past with the park’s virtual reality experience where you can walk among the dinosaurs and explore the prehistoric world.
3. Hidden treasure
Play archeologist as you look for items throughout the museum with a digital scavenger hunt – and learn about the items you find along the way.
4. Your own dig site
Get a little dirty when you visit the quarry – where dinosaur fossils, ancient shark teeth and other historic finds have been uncovered – and do some digging yourself for the chance to find 66-million-year-old fossils. The experience can be added to any museum admission for an additional cost.
5. Critters
Make friends with the reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates that call New Jersey home, learn about their habitats and behaviors, and actually touch some marine life at the museum’s touch tank.
