5 kid-friendly activities for your family in South Jersey

Grab the whole family for a summer full of fun when you try out these South Jersey spots.

Adventure Aquarium

Penguins and hippos and stingrays, oh my! Adventure Aquarium is swimming with exhibits and activities for your curious little ones to explore under the sea. Watch biologists feed the resident hippos, stop by Little Blue Beach to see Little Blue penguins, walk through the shark tunnel and pet stingrays, starfish and other creatures in a number of touch tanks. The aquarium is open from 9:30 am to 5 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 5 pm on weekends. For more information, visit the website

Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge

Meet the wildlife being rehabilitated at Cedar Run as well as the refuge’s ambassador animals, like Ember the red fox and Phoebe Muffay the striped skunk. The center also hosts events like moonlight hikes and yoga at the refuge. Plus, You and Me Preschool programs are presented once a month for children ages 3 to 5, where participants will read, do a craft and embark on a themed adventure. The refuge is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm. For more information, visit the website

Cape May County Park & Zoo

Whether you’re saying hi to the animal residents or trying out an animal encounter, the Cape May County Park & Zoo is the perfect place to have a wild time. Meet lions, reptiles, kangaroo and more or get up-close-and-personal with them through encounters like the capybara meet-and-greet, camel feeding or tortoise encounter. The zoo is open daily from 10 am to 4:30 pm. For more information, visit the website

Johnson’s Corner Farm

Spending the day down on the farm isn’t just about picking Jersey Fresh produce (although that’s a super fun part of it). Visitors at Johnson’s Corner Farm can also stop by the Discovery Barnyard to try rock climbing, race pedal gocarts and cool off at splash pads. Plus, hunt for treasure in the gem mining attraction. The farm is open daily from 8 am to 8 pm. For more information, visit the website

The Library!

Let your imagination run away with plenty of reading-themed events and programs at libraries throughout South Jersey. Libraries host make-n-take crafts, storytimes, nature walks and scavenger hunts all year long. And check out the Westampton Library’s StoryWalk to walk through a story come to life, with each page posted along a path near the amphitheater so you can enjoy a story and nature. In Camden County, most branches have Adventure Begins at your Library programs, where kids of all ages can do a variety of activities, like writing stories, book tasting and even decorating cupcakes. Check your local library’s website for details.
