Although football season means strict diets and hours of practice for NFL players, the offseason gives the professionals a chance to experiment with their workouts. For Eagles QB Carson Wentz, that means jumping in the pool.

“I want to do a lot of swimming in the offseason,” Wentz said. “It’s so good on your joints and it’s a heck of a workout.”

While the cardio and condition that comes with swimming is a plus, Wentz is also drawn to the benefits specific to his position. “It’s also a really good shoulder exercise, and that’s obviously good for a quarterback.”

Even better, you don’t have to Michael Phelps to get the intense workout. “I’m not a great swimmer, but it’s just the idea of taking it easy on your joints and on your knees and still getting the cardio.”
