Flyers’ right wing Wayne Simmonds is starting 2017 on an awesome note. On Tuesday, Simmonds received a spot on the roster for this year’s NHL All-Star Game in Los Angeles – where he started his hockey career.
This will be Simmonds’ first All-Star game, and he’s the only representative for the Flyers.
“It’s kind of surreal,” Simmonds said in a press release. “It makes me think of when I was a young kid watching the All-Star Game. To even be mentioned in the same breath as all-stars in the NHL, that’s awesome.”
In his ninth overall season, his sixth for the Flyers, Simmonds leads the team with 17 goals and is tied for third in the league for power-play goals. For the All-Star Game, he will participate in a skills competition on January 28 and the three-on-three tournament on January 29.
