5 South Jersey Fishing Tournaments You’ll Reel-ly Love

Grab your rods and bait, because the fishermen of SJ are dominating the waters, and they’re hungry for some competition. Here are the 2017 fishing tournaments you don’t want to miss.


Overnight Tuna Tournament

June 23-25
Cape May
Head out on the waters of Cape May for 24 hours on any day during the tournament. The Captain’s Meeting will take place on Friday morning, and a poolside awards dinner on Sunday night. Fishers can weight in the day after their 24-hour shift. Visit the website for more information.


Mako Mania

June 24 & 25
Point Pleasant Beach
Venture out to catch some Mako sharks off the coast of Point Pleasant Beach. All sharks must be 66 inches or longer. The Captain’s Meeting will be held Friday at 6:30 pm, and weigh-ins are from 4 to 7 pm Saturday and Sunday. Visit the website for more information.


The MidAtlantic

August 20-25
Cape May
Register and celebrate at the welcome cocktail party on Sunday before setting out for the week-long tournament. Weigh-ins take place between 5 and 9 pm from Monday to Friday. Finish the week with a dockside awards dinner at two Jersey Shore spots. Check the website for locations.


Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational

July 25-29
Beach Haven
Fish from 7 am until 3 pm on any two of the three days during the tournament and weigh in between 4:30 and 8 pm from Wednesday to Saturday. The Captain’s Meeting and dinner will be held Tuesday at 8 pm, and an awards ceremony will be held Saturday at 9 pm. Food trucks and drinks will be available on each day of the tournament. Jersey Shore Beach N Boat Fishing Tournament

April 1 – November 30
Variety of Jersey Shore Beaches
Take the entire season to find the biggest fish in the Jersey Shore waters. Acceptable fish include striper, fluke, bluefish, black drum, weakfish, Northern kingfish, sea bass and tautog. Participants can fish anywhere along the Jersey shoreline. Check the website for weigh-in locations.
