Don’t be fooled by his name – Shlomo, a Canaan dog from Haddon Twp., was recorded as the fastest Canaan dog in the country. Yes, we said COUNTRY.
At the Fast CAT (Coursing Ability Test) race in Mt. Laurel this past spring, Shlomo ran the 100-yard dash and was recorded running 28..23 mph – a speed that placed him 1st in this year’s competition and 4th in the American Kennel Club’s lifetime list. At the event, he surpassed the 28 mph mark during each of 3 separate 100-yard dashes.
This good boy, whose owner Thomas Cassel adopted him and fellow Canaan, Roscoe, during the pandemic, made quite the leap in the rankings from last year, when he placed 23. “I can’t tell you how many people call him Slow-mo when I introduce him. I correct them by saying there is nothing slow about him,” Cassel posted on Facebook.
These aren’t Shlomo’s only accolades. In 2022, Shlomo was awarded the best of breed in diving dogs by North American Diving Dogs.
