Adventure Aquarium’s Little Blue Penguin chick hatched on April 2.

Adventure Aquarium’s Little Blue Penguins, Kirra and Spud, welcomed their first Little Blue Penguin chick this month.

The female chick, hatched on April 2, is Adventure Aquarium’s third Little Blue Penguin chick. When hatched, she was about the size of a golf ball, weighing less than two ounces, but has grown to weigh 11.6 ounces (330 grams) and is now eating fish just like her parents.

“We’re thrilled to report our Little Blue Penguin chick is doing well, exhibiting normal behaviors, growing strong and very vocal,” said Nicole Grandinetti, Adventure Aquarium’s General Curator.

The chick will continue to be monitored by the aquarium’s animal care team and will join the Little Blue Penguin colony in the Little Blue Beach exhibit at a later date.
