Do you find yourself tearing through your closet trying to put together the perfect outfit for the next holiday party? Stylist Sarah Gleeson of SG Style Me has all the tips to help you pull off a festive look and be a stylish standout at your next event.
Opt for simple jewelry
“Long necklaces and bracelets are definitely out – they can get in the way while you’re trying to put dishes in the oven or plating food,” says Gleeson. “If you want to wear something special, make your earrings your statement piece.”
Stay away from constricting fabrics
“If you’re hosting friends and family, you’re going to be up and down all night, so you don’t want to wear anything that’s too tight. You also want to make sure you’re choosing breathable fabrics so you don’t get too hot,” says Gleeson. “A pretty slip dress with a cardigan is a great option – you’ll be comfortable but still look polished.”
Say yes to flats
“You might love your three-inch heels, but they’re not a good choice if you’re going to be on your feet all night,” says Gleeson. “There are so many festive flats out there – you can find them with glitter, embellishments and fun prints. They’re an easy way to add pizzazz to your outfit.”
Keep your hair and makeup simple
“You shouldn’t look too fussy or overdone. Braids are really popular right now, or you could do an easy ponytail and dress it up with a sparkly headband,” says Gleeson. “You also want to make sure you’re wearing makeup that will stay put all night. Think waterproof mascara and eyeliner, and a lip gloss that won’t need to be reapplied all night.”
