96-Year-Old Donates Her Life’s Work to Alice Paul Institute

Margaret Zierdt has spent more than 40 years of her life advocating for women’s issues and gender equality – and now her work has found a new home in SJ.

Zierdt’s collection of 650 books, stacks of periodicals, and research and writings were transported nearly 2,000 miles from her Colorado home to the library inside the Alice Paul Institute, the Mount Laurel childhood home of women’s suffragist Alice Paul.

The donation to the API is a full-circle moment for the 96-year-old feminist – Zierdt marched in the 2013 Centennial Woman Suffrage Parade, which was organized by Alice Paul one hundred years prior.
