New Year, New Adventures: Must-Visit South Jersey Attractions to see this January

It’s the year of doing things. We’re ditching those hibernation weekends for some serious fun right here in South Jersey.

Blow your own Glass
Millville
You may have visited WheatonArts to watch the incredible glass artists at work, or learned about the storied history of the glassmaking town. Maybe you’ve even bought one of the intricate glass pieces yourself. But have you ever made one? The glass studio offers make-your-own hot glass experiences each weekend from 10 am to 3 pm. 30-minute sessions are available for anyone ages 16 and up, pre-registration is required.

Take a Vintage Train Ride
Woodstown
All aboard! Take a ride on this vintage railroad, Woodstown Central Railroad, finished with plush velvet seats and windows to open so you can take in the scenic South Jersey views. The rail line also offers special themed excursions throughout the year, like a continental breakfast ride, a BYO wine and cheese ride, and a brewery tour ride.

Celebrate Alice Paul
Mt. Laurel
The Alice Paul Institute is now the Alice Paul Center for Gender Justice, but the center continues to offer year-round programming for the community, including Family Saturdays every other month and Yoga at Paulsdale every Wednesday at 6 pm. The center also offers tours to learn about suffragette Alice Paul’s childhood home. And this month, the center will celebrate Paul’s birthday on January 11 with a special program.

Sleep aboard a Battleship
Camden
Live the life of a navy sailor…at least for a night…aboard Battleship New Jersey. Once you store your things in the lockers that once held sailor’s personal belonging, head to the Crew’s Mess for a chowline dinner, followed by a private tour of the Battleship to see the Captain’s and Admiral’s cabins, the Officer’s Wardroom, go inside one of the ship’s gun turrets and experience much more hands-on fun aboard the ship. Of course, end the night by tucking into one of the bunks that was used by sailors. Breakfast is also provided the next morning along with more educational experiences with ship experts.
