Beat the Heat: Indoor Attractions for August Days

We can’t spend every day under the hot sun – but that doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice having fun. Check out these South Jersey spots where you can cool off and have a ball.

Battleship New Jersey

Cool off on the Delaware River when you board the most-decorated Battleship in the country. Explore the different levels of the Battleship New Jersey, seeing where the crew lived, where missions were planned and the ship’s controls. For more information and tickets, visit the website.

Burlington County Prison Museum

Walk the halls that colonial criminals walked in New Jersey’s early years. Learn about the prisoners who stayed at the prison, hunt for ghosts with a spirit box (available to rent for $5) or play an escape game with your group to see if you could slip past the guards and escape. The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. For more information, visit the website.

Wheaton Arts

Whether you’re an artist yourself or just an admirer, there’s something for everyone at Wheaton Arts. Take a class to flex your creative muscles, stop by one of the many art shows hosted on the campus or tour the area to see potter and glass demonstrations. For more information, visit the website.

Indian King Tavern

The founding fathers used to pop into Indian King Tavern for a respite from the summer heat and a refreshing brew – and to make a little history. And while you can’t get a beer at the tavern, you can tour the rooms and see where some big decisions were made during the Revolutionary War. For more information, visit the website.

Noyes Arts Garage

Watch an art museum come to life with a variety of artist booths and demonstrations located in an unassuming parking garage on Fairmount Avenue. Take a class, find a new favorite local artist or keep an eye out for upcoming events hosted in the space. For more information, visit the website.

Doo Wop Experience

Light up your summer when you visit the Doo Wop Experience Museum, where you can see Wildwood’s history through historic restaurant and hotel signs, artifacts like diner seating and 50’s furniture. For more information, visit the website.
