8 ways to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend in South Jersey

The unofficial start to summer is upon us – and we couldn’t be more excited. So we’ve rounded up some fun and fantastic events to kick off the celebration. 

 

International Kite Festival 

May 23-26

Look up! The International Kite Festival is back with hundreds of kite flyers, team events, auctions, an illuminated night kite fly and family games all weekend long. For a full schedule of events, visit the website. 

 

Collingswood May Fair 

May 24

Eat, shop and play your way down Haddon Avenue as restaurants, art and craft vendors and musicians bring their best to the more-than-a-mile long fair. Plus, stop by the “KidZone” to try your hand at carnival games, hop on rides and browse child-friendly crafters. The fair runs from 10 am to 5 pm. For more information, visit the website. 

 

Business Persons Plunge

May 23

Kick off beach season in your business finest during Ocean City’s annual business persons plunge. The plunge – which, yes, involves you running into the ocean in business attire – takes place at Moorlyn Terrace St. Beach at noon. For more information, visit the website. 

 

AdventureFEST 

May 24 & 25

Magic comes to Historic Smithville just in time for Memorial Day Weekend. See the interactive “The Magic of Merlin” show, where you can help decide how the heroes’ journey unfolds. And between acts, explore the festival featuring unique vendors and snacks. The free shows start at 1 pm and 5 pm on Saturday and at 1 pm on Sunday. 

 

Tots For Sculpture 

May 24

Bring the tots to Grounds For Sculpture to make hands-on art during this monthly program. During this programs, participants will make colorful cloud dough and then enjoy a storytime. The program costs $5 per child, free for members, and runs from 10:30 to 11:45 am. For more information, visit the website. 

 

Haddonfield Memorial Day Parade 

May 26

Celebrate Memorial Day with a parade presented by the Haddonfield American Legion Post 38. The parade starts at 10 am at Kings Highway and Chestnut Street, and will be followed by a remembrance ceremony at Haddonfield Memorial High School. For more information, visit the website. 

 

Food Truck Night 

May 22

Get a head start on a delicious Memorial Day Weekend by kicking off the festivities at Croft Farm’s food truck night. Dig into dishes from local vendors from 6 to 8 pm at this free event. For more information, visit the website. 

 

Cape May Music Festival 

May 25

Memorial Day Weekend marks the start of Cape May’s annual music festival – featuring a number of musicians performing around Cape May all through June.
