5 South Jersey Small Towns with the Best Fall Charm

The leaves are changing and the spicy smell of pumpkin is infiltrating the air. So grab your favorite cozy fall drink and visit these small towns for a touch of fall charm. 

 

Collingswood 

Highlights: Walks down Haddon Ave. to window shop – books, vintage, clothes and more – with a pumpkin spice latte in hand; Collingswood Farmers Market each Saturday on Irving Ave.; live music and art vendors along Haddon Ave. each second Saturday

Medford 

Highlights: Explore the quaint streets of Medford Village to take in Victorian-era architecture as you visit boutiques, restaurants and cafes; stop by the Medford Art Center to see its latest exhibits; Bring your furry friend to Freedom Barks for a walk or some play on the agility equipment; Walk around Kirbys Mill and snap a pic near the iconic water wheel

Haddonfield 

Highlights: Haddonfield’s bustling downtown is full of vintage shops, book stores, home goods, a brewery, winery and plenty of dining destinations; visit the Indian King Tavern for a look at the historic inn where the founding fathers slept and talked everything revolutionary; see the site where the first nearly-complete dinosaur skeleton, the Hadrosaurus foulkii, was unearthed

Merchantville 

Highlights: Watch as Merchantville transforms into Monsterville each October with Halloween displays and a home decorating contest; walk through Wellwood Memorial Park, stopping at the gazebo or playing a match on the tennis courts; admire the Victorian charm of the walkable town

Don’t miss: Harvest & Haunts Festival on Oct. 11 

 

Historic Smithville 

Highlights: Hop on the old fashioned carousel in the center of town; step back in time to walk around the quaint village, try a number of eateries and do some shopping; float along the picturesque lake in a paddleboat; make sure to check the calendar for special events each weekend like the Irish Festival and Dickens Fest
