Row, row, row your…kayak. Get some fresh air and feel the breeze off South Jersey’s many waterways with these kayaking adventures.
Batsto River
Take in views of history as you float around the Batsto River past historic Batsto Village, with traces of the glassmaking and iron working communities that thrived there during the 18th and 19th centuries. For a quick paddle, put in at the Batsto Lake Canoe launch or opt for a 4-hour trip with a put-in at Quaker Bridge, near the intersection of Batsto River Rd. and Quaker Bridge Atsion Rd.
Pinelands Adventures
Don’t feel comfortable kayaking on your own? You can still explore the many waterways that the Pinelands has to offer – seriously, there are so many – with some help from Pinelands Adventures, a nonprofit that offers kayak tours throughout the Pinelands. Whether you’re looking for a 2-, 4-, 5- or 8-hour trip, with a group or by yourself, there’s something for everyone.
Atsion Lake
You might feel like you’re at the Jersey Shore, but we can promise you – this is a lake. The 100-acre lake features swimming, lifeguards, a picnic area and more, but some of the most fun is exploring the area on your kayak, when you can keep an eye out for bald eagles, great blue herons, swans, hummingbirds and more wildlife that call the Wharton State Forest home.
Cooper River Park
Take your time paddling along a real rowing race “track” on Cooper River. The site of the famous Dad Vail Regatta, the River also features two put-in sites for public kayaking, one on the north side near the intersection of N. Park Dr. and E. Cuthbert Blvd, and one on the south side next to the S Park Softball Field.
