If you’ve got some extra cash laying around (well, a lot of extra cash), you can live out a dream you didn’t know you had — owning a Phillie Phanatic Hot Dog Launcher. And we’re not talking a hot dog launcher that was just used by the Phanatic. No, we’re talking the original launcher shaped as the Phanatic’s head used to send your favorite baseball snack right from its big green snout straight to the stands.
The one-of-a-kind item is just one of 10 specialty items being auctioned off as a part of the Phantastic Auction’s 10th anniversary. The bidding started on May 16th and will close on Friday, May 27th at 5 pm. The next bid currently stands at $1,840 (at the time of this writing on Tuesday, May 24.)
What could be worth that kind of money? The Phillies make their case:
“The launcher, designed to replicate the Phanatic’s head, is equipped with the mascot’s standard red backwards Phillies hat, as well as classic pink and blue coloring around the eye lids. This 3’5 ft. long by 2 ft. tall defunct hot dog launcher was used by the Phillie Phanatic at Veterans Stadium and is an incredible, one of kind piece of memorabilia that is a must have for any fan!”
The only bummer? The launcher isn’t actually functioning, so you’ll have to grab your hot dog like the rest of us. But it sure looks awesome.
The auction will raise money for Phillies Charities, which benefits many local charities and nonprofits in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, as well as communities surrounding its minor league affiliates.
