Women in Healthcare: Kimberly Talley, MSN, RN, CRNP
Although a life-long resident of South Jersey, Kimberly Talley, Vice President of Patient Care Services for Inspira Health’s Vineland, Elmer and Bridgeton campuses, had always worked in Philadelphia or Delaware. Her desire to be a resource to her own community was finally achieved in July of 2021 when she joined Inspira. Talley grew up in Burlington County and resides in Gloucester County, where she and her husband raised their family.
While in nursing school, Talley was drawn to critical care and trauma. She thrived in chaotic environments. Her ability to manage stressful situations as a new RN led to “taps on the shoulder” early in her career for leadership opportunities.
“I manage stress well,” Talley says, “and have been described as having a calming, welcoming presence.”
Although the idea of leadership was planted early, Talley enjoyed working at the bedside, providing care and educating patients and families. She also wanted to wait until her children were older before she accepted the responsibilities of a leadership position.
“When you are in a management position, you need to be visible, present and available,” she says. “This requires a supportive and flexible home life.”
Talley’s clinical experiences and the mentoring she received throughout her career helped to shape her into the kind of leader she always aspired to be. As a passionate and empathetic servant leader, she learned early in her career, “If you build relationships with your employees, by listening and respecting their insights, they will give back tenfold.”
Talley’s personal leadership philosophy directly aligns with Inspira’s mission, vision, and values. She’s focused on the delivery of high-quality patient-centric care, elevating the employee and patient experience and ensuring staff have the tools and support to deliver the highest quality and safest care. Inspira is a nationally recognized Magnet organization with a robust shared governance structure that supports shared decision-making and empowerment for nurses.
As a result of Inspira creating a psychologically safe and caring environment, a record-setting 80% of Inspira’s employees participated in a recent engagement survey. Talley and the entire leadership team will use the results to partner with employees to identify opportunities for continued success.
Now 14 months into her job at Inspira, Talley’s continued priorities are caring for her community, improving access to care and eliminating health care disparities.
