Wendy Martinez, MD
“We often see multiple generations of women from one family. Being able to build that long-term relationship with women, as their lives and health needs change, is the most rewarding part of my work.”
ALL-FEMALE PRACTICE
In her highly successful practice, one thing has never changed: all practitioners are female. “Patients sometimes feel like they can trust a female doctor because she has a more personal understanding of their issues,” Dr. Martinez says. “A male doctor may be just as good, but he doesn’t have firsthand experience.”
MENOPAUSE & MORE
Dr. Martinez has developed one of the largest surgical practices at Virtua, where she is highly respected for her expertise in laparoscopic and laser surgeries, as well as outpatient hysteroscopic removal of polyps and fibroids and vaginal reconstructive surgery for vaginal prolapse. Dr. Martinez also performs cancer surgery, outpatient endometrial thermal ablation for heavy periods, fibroid surgery and laparoscopic removal of ovaries, tubes and the uterus.
A member of The North American Menopause Society (NAMS), Dr. Martinez is one of only a handful of doctors in New Jersey who are NAMS-certified practitioners. She is frequently called to lecture on women’s health topics related to menopause, in addition to pregnancy, childbirth, hormones and osteoporosis.
LISTENING & EDUCATING
Almost 35 years after founding South Jersey’s first all-women OB/GYN practice, Dr. Martinez understands the importance of caring, listening and educating when she is with patients. “Patients tell me that most physicians today don’t take the time to listen or explain things to them. I find that very disheartening,” she says. “Women need the right information to make informed choices concerning their health. This has been my lifelong passion.”
