Weinberg Kaplan & Smith, Matrimonial & Family Law

Weinberg Kaplan & Smith

The Marlton-based law firm of Weinberg Kaplan & Smith was founded more than a decade ago by partners Dawn Kaplan and Amy Smith. Michael Weinberg joined the firm in 2019. WKS focuses on matrimonial and family law, guiding clients through matters that can involve deeply personal decisions, complex finances, and the future of their families.

As family law has evolved, including recent changes in custody statutes and developments in alimony law, WKS has added attorneys who bring diverse strengths to areas such as divorce, custody, child support, domestic violence, mediation, and appeals involving the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.

“We truly work as a team,” Kaplan says. “We consult with each other to come up with the best outcomes for our clients. So even though you’re hiring one lawyer, you get the benefit of our entire team of experienced attorneys.”

Drew Molotsky, Esq.

WKS is marking its next chapter with the addition of Drew Molotsky as a partner. A certified matrimonial trial attorney and certified mediator, Molotsky brings decades of family law experience and a compassionate approach to client care, Kaplan says.

“Mediation can be a really good option for families,” Kaplan says. “Drew brings significant experience in this area, and adding him to our team strengthens and expands the mediation capabilities we already provide to clients. He is the kind of attorney who truly makes a difference for clients and their families.”

With Molotsky, WKS now has 9 attorneys focused on family law, giving the firm uncommon depth for a practice concentrated in matrimonial and family matters.

“We’re proud of the firm we’ve built,” says Kaplan. “We serve clients across New Jersey – we’re a boutique firm that delivers the services of a large law practice with attention and warmth.”

That comprehensive, compassionate approach matters, because people rarely walk through the doors of WKS with concerns that can be answered by the law alone. And while clients may be facing an immediate family law matter, decisions made during the process have a lasting effect – shaping how families function, how parents communicate, and how finances are handled for years to come.

Kaplan stresses that their work also calls for a clear understanding of clients’ needs and priorities. “Our job is to protect our clients’ interests from a legal standpoint, but also to guide and support them through the process,” Kaplan says. “People often come to us when life feels overwhelming. Helping them move forward takes compassion, care, and empathy.”

“Every client is different from the client before,” she adds, noting that some cases require advocacy in court. Others call for a more measured path toward settlement or mediation. The goal, Kaplan says, is to protect clients’ rights while avoiding unnecessary conflict that could make already difficult situations even more challenging. Making that difference in clients’ lives is what keeps the work meaningful, she says. “Nothing is better than a client telling you that you were a major part of getting them through such a difficult time.”
