Keeping our communities healthy
For Tom DiNunzio, keeping our homes and workplaces safe is about more than just combating Covid-19 – it’s about protecting the businesses and jobs in our communities.
“Our neighborhoods are filled with so many small businesses that have been passed down for generations and so many big companies that employ people in our communities, and we want to be part of protecting them,” says DiNunzio, a partner of Germ-Nix, a professional disinfection company. “Right now, the way to do that is by making sure our buildings are free of harmful germs and bacteria.”
Germ-Nix got its start by specializing in the disinfection of hospitals and surgical centers. They’ve since branched out, bringing that same intense sanitation process to residential homes, offices, commercial buildings, government facilities and healthcare settings. Some disinfection companies offer similar services, but they may not have the expertise to get the job done right, says DiNunzio.
“Every bacteria and virus, every environment requires a different approach, and when you don’t have the expert background knowledge to do it correctly, it is not going to be effective,” he says.
Disinfecting and deep cleaning may sound similar, but don’t get them confused – they’re two very different things. Typical spray and wipe methods, he says, don’t achieve results necessary to attack and prevent harmful bacteria and viruses. The team behind Germ-Nix has more than 3 decades of experience in healthcare-based disinfection, and their expertise is only growing, DiNunzio says.
“We’re always advancing,” he says. “We have an infection preventionist on board and full-trained staff that team up to make sure we don’t miss a thing. We always stay up to date on the latest guidelines and technology, and we do it in a way that makes our services accessible to everyone.”
In addition to their EPA-approved disinfection sprays and environment cleaning swabs, one advancement cleaning tool is the UV light used to disinfect environments like restaurants and bars, where it would be harmful to spray chemicals. Germ-Nix is also certified in mold inspections and removal. And recently, Germ-Nix partnered with a company called Aerus to install air purification systems in businesses to help keep the building clean long after the company comes in to disinfect.
Just as important to his mission, DiNunzio says, is making sure everyone in the community has access to a clean environment – from big corporations to mom-and-pop shops.
“We offer free consultations with small businesses to help them evaluate their company’s disinfection protocols and set guidelines for keeping their environment clean,” he says. “From there, we are constantly creating discounts and customized packages to make sure we have services that work for every business.”
This helps businesses keep their doors open, while also ensuring employees stay safe and healthy at their jobs, he says.
“Being safe means being clean,” says DiNunzio. “We want to make a difference in our local communities by giving people access to the disinfecting capabilities you normally only see in hospitals. That helps grow the local economy and save jobs that might otherwise be lost.”
Keeping away the germs
Keeping your home or business clean is hard enough – and keeping it free from harmful bacteria is even harder, says Tom DiNunzio, a partner of Germ-Nix. But just a few steps can help get your space on the right track – and keep it there – so you can live, work and play in a healthy environment.
1. Keep it clean: Staying on top of general cleaning – like wiping down surfaces – is the first step, but it’s not enough, says DiNunzio.
2. Get tested: You can’t fight what you don’t know is there, he says. Hire a professional to swab-test your establishment to see if you carry any contagious bacteria.
3. Get treatment: Have your establishment sprayed or treated with UV light at least once a month. Bacteria hide in the cracks and crevices you don’t normally clean, and these treatments make sure they’re gone. 4. Purify the air: Maintain this level of disinfection with an air purification system to keep the bacteria from coming back and spreading quickly.
