Rewriting the Rules of Rest

Kelly Wernersbach
“You can eat right, exercise, do all the ‘right’ things – but if your sleep system is actually a sleep disturbance, none of it matters.”
Kelly Wernersbach never dreamed she’d have the career she has now.
But when her husband suffered a massive heart attack, the trajectory of her life shifted overnight.
“I was a very happy stay-at-home mom,” says Wernersbach, owner of Adjust Your Sleep Mattress Boutique. “But life changes pretty quickly when something like that happens.”
With her family suddenly needing a second income, she took the first local job she could find – working in a bedding store.
“I didn’t know anything about the industry,” she says. “But I quickly realized it was a very strange, very clinical industry. Get someone in the door, lay them down, take their money. And that bothered me.”
She wanted to listen – to understand people’s aches, their habits, their health challenges.
“It was no longer just a mattress for me,” she says. “All the parts have to work together if you want to have great sleep.”
Today, that philosophy is the foundation of Adjust Your Sleep Mattress Boutique in Marlton, where Wernersbach has built a truly transformative approach to sleep wellness. Sleep, she insists, isn’t a luxury – it’s the core of health.
“Sleep is the ‘it’ factor in being healthy,” she says. “You can eat right, exercise, do all the ‘right’ things – but if your sleep system is actually a sleep disturbance, none of it matters.”
That’s why buying a mattress online can’t compare to an in-person experience. No algorithm can ask if you’re dealing with sciatica, stenosis, chronic pain, or poor spinal alignment. In her boutique, clients begin not by bouncing on beds but sitting by the fireplace, often with coffee or a mimosa.
“People think it’s weird at first,” she says. “But what’s weird is plopping onto something you think you’ll keep for 10 years without anyone learning anything about you.”
Wernersbach customizes everything – from mattresses to pillows to adjustable bases – and even collaborates with wellness practitioners and local manufacturers to ensure quality and safety. She can tweak factory builds, design entirely new beds, and help couples find a sleep system that works for both partners. And surprisingly, the price is never what people fear.
“People sometimes think I’m super high-end,” she says. “But I’m actually less expensive than the big names – and I offer an all-natural product with lifetime rebuilds.”
In the end, she hopes people see their mattress for what it is: an investment in every part of their lives.
“When we’re willing to spend $250 on good sneakers, why would we expect the bed we sleep on every night to cost less,” she says. “I can design beds at every price point because I care more about someone’s sleep than the bottom dollar.”
“I get teary-eyed when clients share their experiences,” she adds. “I absolutely love my job.”
