2026 South Jersey’s Face of Family Dentistry: Dr. John L. Lenahan

Patient-Centered Care

Dr. John L. Lenahan, Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dental Procedures

Staffordshire Dental Group didn’t emerge as a large, full-service practice overnight. Its growth has been gradual, shaped by decades of relationships, evolving technology and a consistent commitment to putting patients first.

“It’s been an evolutionary process,” says Dr. John Lenahan, founder of Staffordshire Dental Group. After earning his degree from the University of Pennsylvania and completing his military service in the Army Dental Corps, Lenahan entered private practice, initially working alongside another local dentist.

But it quickly became clear he was ready to build something of his own. “The opportunity to run my own practice, make my own decisions, and really see the results of my own hard work – it just felt like a natural progression,” he says.

That decision led to a solo practice in Lindenwold, followed by a partnership and eventual expansion into the Staffordshire complex, where the practice still operates today.

Growth, Lenahan says, was never the primary goal. Instead, it was a natural outcome of doing right by patients. “It was really about servicing our patients,” he says. “Treating patients like family became a self-propagating process. The more word of mouth and referrals we saw, it really took on a life of its own.”

Today, Staffordshire Dental Group offers a comprehensive range of services, from routine cleanings and preventive care to cosmetic dentistry, restorative procedures, oral surgery, periodontal treatment, implants and Botox injectios to treat TMJ problems. The practice has grown to include multiple dentists and a skilled team of hygienists, all working within a modern, well-equipped facility. Yet despite its size, the atmosphere remains personal and approachable, he says.

It’s an approach that resonates with patients, particularly those who may feel anxious about dental visits. “People do have a real fear and anxiety,” he says. “I try to make patients feel as comfortable as possible. You have to remember that every tooth you’re working on is attached to a person.”

While the practice is grounded in empathy, it has also kept pace with advances in dental technology, Lenahan says. “Advances in technology have really driven much of the practice’s growth,” he says. “There’s been shift to digital X-rays, improved materials and more efficient treatment options like faster crown placement. These allow us to deliver care that is not only more precise, but also more comfortable and convenient for patients.”

“Our goal has always been simple – treat people the way we’d want our own families to be treated,” he adds.
