Drs. Rosen & Dworkin, P.A.

The highly trained team at Drs. Rosen & Dworkin, P.A., thinks this is an amazing time to be a dentist – and a patient.

“I’ve been practicing dentistry for more than 40 years, and if you think about the changes that have taken place in dentistry during that period, it’s incredible,” says practice co-founder Fred Rosen, DMD. “The advances in materials, procedures, equipment and technology make my work very exciting – I think even more so than when I first graduated from dental school and began seeing patients.”

The practice’s other co-founder, Gary Dworkin, DMD, agrees. “The changes have definitely kept things very interesting. There have been advances in everything from digital X-rays to the way we perform root canals. To ensure we’re fully trained on the latest technology and procedures, we frequently attend conferences, take courses, participate in study groups and constantly read journal articles.”

This ongoing training has resulted in both Rosen and Dworkin being honored with Fellowships in the Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Dentistry International. A Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, which is held by approximately 10 percent of all dentists in the United States, requires a minimum of 500 hours of continuing education and the passing of two full days of written exams in all areas of dentistry. The Academy of Dentistry International awards Fellowships based on activity in the profession of teaching, research and community service, and it is an honor held by only 1 percent of U.S. dentists.

“To be a Fellow, you obviously need to have an ongoing commitment to continuing education,” says Dworkin. “The Fellowship requires even more continuing education hours than the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry does each year, and I’d say that Dr. Rosen and I actually complete triple the number of hours required annually.”

Rosen, who has been accepted as an expert in general dentistry by the New Jersey Superior Court System and has been asked to testify in numerous court cases involving dental evidence, says it’s not just the doctors who benefit from ongoing education and training.

“We have a very well-trained staff, many of whom have been with our practice for more than 25 years,” he says. “We frequently take the staff to educational conferences and meetings so they are also learning and expanding their knowledge. This means that our entire office is providing the best possible care, which clearly benefits our patients.”

And while the highly trained professionals at Rosen & Dworkin, P.A., value their teaching experience and clinical skills, they also understand the importance of patient care.

“We’re aware that many people don’t like coming to the dentist, so we try to make the experience as friendly, gentle and caring as possible,” says Dworkin. “We develop great relationships with all of our patients, because they know we always have their best interests in mind.”

This innovative approach, says Rosen, is what keeps patients coming back.

“Most of our patients have been with our practice for many years. We have a number of families who have been coming to our office for four generations ? even five generations in a few cases,” he says. “We make it a point to follow up with phone calls to patients who have undergone more extensive procedures to make sure they’re doing well. And all our patients know they can always reach out to us with any questions or concerns.”

Dworkin, who was one of 30 members throughout the United States and Canada on the Council for Innovative Dentistry for the 3M/ESPE Corporation, an advisory committee for product development and evaluation, says this focus on communication allows the staff to provide individualized patient care.

“We make ourselves very accessible and communicate with each patient, which allows us to better understand them and their specific dental needs, whether they need just regular checkups or more advanced procedures,” he says.

The office’s general dentistry services go beyond the traditional cleanings and tooth-colored fillings. The staff provides treatment of TMJ disorders, in addition to cavity treatment with air abrasion.

IMG_1258“It’s a like a ‘needle-less, drill-less’ filling, without shots of numbing medication in your gums or the unpleasant sound, smell and vibration of a dental drill,” says Rosen.

During the treatment, an instrument that emits a thin, powerful stream of air containing safe, 25 micron particles is used to precisely and quickly remove the least amount of tooth structure necessary to eliminate decay. It is so comfortable, most patients can undergo air abrasion without anesthesia. According to Rosen, the technique significantly reduces the amount of healthy tooth that is removed in comparison to a standard drill, which means the filling is smaller and more of the tooth’s natural structure and strength are preserved.

Along with general dentistry, the expert staff at Rosen & Dworkin, P.A., provides both cosmetic and restorative dentistry services.

“Some of our cosmetic dentistry services include porcelain veneers, bonding and tooth-colored fillings,” says Dworkin. “We also have multiple teeth-whitening options available. We have some patients who would rather have it done quickly in the office, while others don’t want to sit in the chair and would rather whiten at home.”

Dworkin, who is an Invisalign Preferred Provider, says the practice also offers Invisalign braces for patients of all ages. “We see a number of adults who want to do Invisalign; some are people who have never had braces and want to finally straighten their teeth, but there are also a number of adults who wore braces when they were younger and maybe didn’t wear their retainers like they were supposed to and had a relapse. Now that they’re older, they have more appreciation for straight teeth.”

The practice’s restorative dentistry services help the whole complexion of patients’ teeth and mouth look brand new, explains Rosen.

“We perform several types of restorative procedures, including crowns, bridges, dentures, partial dentures and implants. We see a wide range of patients, from those needing a single filling to those with full mouth reconstructions with crowns and implants,” he says. “No matter what the patient needs, our goal is to help them achieve a bright and healthy smile.”
