A history of life-changing care and committed support
“People with profound autism require 24-hour support with their activities of daily living and have some very significant challenges. We meet them where they are to provide what they need.”
Imagine a world where everyone is accepted as they are and where success is defined by each person’s unique journey. For over 140 years, Bancroft has been that world for countless families, providing steadfast support and compassion for those navigating the challenges of autism and intellectual disabilities.
“Bancroft specializes in supporting people with profound autism,” says Karen Lindgren, PhD, Chief Clinical Officer at Bancroft. “People with profound autism require 24-hour support with their activities of daily living and have some very significant challenges. We meet them where they are to provide what they need.”
With a strong presence in South Jersey, Bancroft serves over 2,000 people each year and employs nearly 3,000 staff members. The nonprofit’s facilities include The Bancroft School in Mt. Laurel, over 275 group homes, apartment programs, four schools, a brain injury program and four outpatient centers. There’s specialized treatment for acute behavioral challenges, including a children’s residential program, a severe behavioral program, acute adults services and special education. Expanded services include a pediatric diagnostic clinic to address the growing need for autism evaluations.
“Success looks different for every person” says Dr. Lindgren. “For some it’s moving into their own apartment or taking public transportation independently. For others, it’s the joy of taking their child on vacation or playing on the beach for the first time. We’ve had families cry tears of joy when their child says their first words. I see the impact of our programs every day.”
