Trail plan from the county’s first public meeting on The Spine.

Imagine traveling the entirety of Camden County by bike. It may sound ambitious, but thanks to the county’s Bicycling & Multi-Use Trails Plan, that dream is on its way to becoming reality.

Adopted in 2015, the Bicycling & Multi-Use Trails Plan aims to establish and maintain nearly 500 miles of multi-use trails and on-street bike facilities in every borough and township of Camden County. The initiative will begin with a cross-county trail known as “The Spine.”

“The Spine” will run about 32 miles from Camden, on the Delaware waterfront, to the Atlantic County border, acting as the central lane for all future trails to connect with. It will use existing throughways around the county so it can be funded by grants instead of taxes.

A public survey is available online for anyone who wants to comment or offer suggestions for the trail’s location. In 2017, follow-up public meetings will be held as finalized plans come together.
