Congressman Andy Kim’s Suit Heads to the Smithsonian

Talk about humble beginnings – A seemingly common navy blue suit has gone from a J. Crew sales rack to the showcases of the Smithsonian thanks to Congressman Andy Kim.

In January, a photo of Kim picking up trash in the U.S. Capitol building after the Jan. 6 riot went viral online, shining an unexpected limelight on the South Jersey representative. Now he’s making his own mark on the history books by donating the outfit to be part of the Smithsonian’s collection on the event.

“It’ll be surreal to one day take my kids to the Smithsonian and show them the blue suit behind glass,” Kim writes on Twitter. “I hope they grow to know the truth of Jan. 6, but I also hope the story ultimately is one of hope and resilience. I hope that is what they and others see in the blue suit.”
