We’ve wrapped up our Spring cleaning, and are ready to take on the world. Or at least our next decorating project. But before you dive into the decor, check out some tips and inspo from interior designer and QVC Home Reflections Ambassador Carrie Locklyn.
Pair blinds with curtains

During a Q&A for QVC, Locklyn was asked about putting both blinds and curtains on the same window – and she was all for it, saying that the curtains really soften the edges of the blinds, and add to the layered look.
Try out an open concept

Locklyn has a few tips for pulling off a coherent and homey open concept layout for your home:
- Repeat colors & patterns
- Keep flooring the same
- Paint everything the same color & include the ceiling
- Pick 3 to 5 elements that travel through the space to blend & make the space cohesive
- Rugs, mirrors and plants can help define spaces
- Choose lighting that works as a group
Woods & temperature

When asked about flooring, Locklyn reminded us of her one rule for wood finishes: Keep them in the same temperature. That means you can mix and match as much as you’d like, but just make sure they’re either all cool or they’re all warm.
PLANTS.

If you follow Locklyn, you know she loves her garden, and you’ll also find her bringing some of that nature into her home with touches of plants here and there that make the room feel brighter.
Decorate with purpose

We’ve all been there – you can’t stop staring at that empty corner in your living room or that bare shelf in your kitchen. But that doesn’t mean you should fill it with the first thing you find. Locklyn encourages any decorator to choose items for the home with purpose, find pieces that speak to you, even keep photos of your home in your phone to reference when you’re out shopping. This will help you curate an elevated and authentic space.
