A home full of colorful, thriving plants adds a special something to your indoor decor. But that’s not all. Find out just how many ways indoor gardening can enhance your living space.
Breathe in – safely
You may be surprised by the amount of toxins that are in your home’s air – from carbon dioxide to benzene and formaldehyde. Luckily, adding plants to the room can help to clear those toxins and have you breathing some clean, fresh air from morning to night, according to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors.
Boost your performance
The key to your next promotion might have some long roots and beautiful flowers. A study found that people had higher grade point averages when plants were present, and participants who took care of plants had greater academic achievement.
Helping your health
It turns out, going green can give your health the green light. A number of studies have shown the benefits plants have on our health, including one that found people took less pain killers when plants were in the room. Another compared two hospital wards, one with plants and one without. The ward with plants had a significantly higher percentage of patients with stable blood pressure, heart rate, respiration rate and body temperature.
Quiet down
Who doesn’t love a little peace and quiet? Filling your home or apartment with plants can be a quick – and low maintenance – way to get rid of some of that noise you hear from outside, according to a study from the Journal of Environmental Health.
