One More Thing: What’s the most “interesting” food you’ve ever eaten?

Ants while in the Australian Outback while in college. Our aboriginal bush guide had us try them after a few cold ones!

I ate whale blubber in Iceland. Even the word blubber is weird and fun to say. Tasted like fish jello – exactly what you would expect. It is supposed to be good for your skin, but how can you eat fish jello a second time? Once and done. Hope that is all I need for a lifetime of good skin.

When I was younger I participated in “Fear Factor Live” at Universal Studios Orlando. One of the challenges I had to complete was an eating challenge. I had to eat a milkshake that contained sour milk, fish heads and tails, bugs (worms, cockroaches, etc.), and the “meat that doesn’t make it into your hot dog.” Probably the most disgusting thing I ever tasted but I won the challenge!

Sea Urchin – I was on a date with a foodie, and he insisted it was delicious. He was right.

Cockroaches! We were at a restaurant in Santa Monica where the chef offered a complimentary appetizer. I was stunned when the waitress asked, “Would you like your cockroaches sautéed or broiled?” Trying to make light of my disgust, I asked if they served chocolate covered cockroaches for dessert. The broiled ones were quite tasty!

Eyeballs (lamb, I think). A local extended family invited me to dinner, wanting to share their culture. I loved the music and the stories and all the food – except for the eyeballs.

For me, it was alligator sticks and alligator jerky. I found it when I was visiting New Orleans several years ago. I was pleasantly surprised!

When my kids were too young to use the stove or microwave, they made me “cheese fondue” for Mother’s Day breakfast in bed. Cold shredded cheddar mixed with oil and water. Mmmmm!
Lisa Fields, Cherry Hill

I ate chocolate-covered ants in fifth grade science class, and they were crunchy. The chocolate covered up the fact that they were ants, so it wasn’t too bad.
Laura Ross, Medford

Sea urchin. I know it is a delicacy for some, but not quite for me.
Colette Oswald, Haddonfield

The weirdest thing I’ve tried was a chicken foot. My youngest and I lost a bet to my 3 older kids and had to try it. I won’t lose that bet again.
Lori Timmerman, Sewell

Gator bites! Otherwise known as fried alligator tails. I thought they would be tough to chew, but pleasantly surprised at how tender and tasty. Then again, anything fried…yum!
Cheryl Young, Magnolia

It would have to be pickled frog legs. When I was little my uncle had a jar of them and offered me one. One try was enough for me.
