Walking through a tunnel of sharks, touching a live stingray and meeting a diver. Sounds fun, right? But we know how to make a day at South Jersey’s aquarium even better. Check out our tips to have an awesome, incredible day the whole family will love at Adventure Aquarium.
Get an Early Start
The early bird gets the worm – and an up-front look at hippos, penguins and sharks. The Aquarium opens at 10 am, so plan to arrive just before then. That will give you plenty of time to see the entire aquarium and avoid the rush of crowds that develops later in the day.
Plan an Encounter
Do you like to get up-close-and-personal with sea creatures? Choose one of the aquarium’s three encounters to take home some penguin art, come within inches of sharks or meet a sea turtle. It’ll be a day you’ll never forget – and a great story.
Become a Member
As a member of the Adventure Aquarium, you get to participate in membership appreciation days. The aquarium recently invited members to enjoy behind-the-scene tours and “bring your friend” days from September 9 to October 28. Keep an eye out for other dates and member exclusives in the future.
Look for Special Exhibits
Adventure Aquarium always has special exhibits planned to shake up your trip. Next is Mermaids, starting on November 5. Families will have the chance to get a mermaid’s autograph, paint their faces and watch a mermaid swim with the sharks. Always check the aquarium’s website to see what, and when, the special exhibit is.
Watch a Feeding
There is so much to do at Adventure Aquarium, even without special exhibits and encounters. You can feed stingrays, meet divers and help biologists put Button and Genny the hippos to bed. Don’t just see these creatures behind glass – be a part of the experience.
Be Flexible
While it’s comforting to have a minute-to-minute plan, things come up. Kids change their minds, people are late and sometimes you fall behind that detailed plan. Having a list of places to visit can be more relaxing than a timed schedule. Choose your top three exhibits and make sure you hit those. And, hey, if you miss something, you can just go see it next time.
