The teenage members of Hopeworks ‘N Camden’s Youth Service Team have never let their age or experiences define them – and others have taken notice.

Last month, the Scattergood Foundation honored the Youth Service Team with its prestigious national Innovation Award, which comes with an awesome $25,000 prize. Team member Gemyra Wynn (pictured above) accepted the award on behalf of the group.

The Youth Services Team is comprised entirely of youth with adverse childhood experiences, develops and gives presentations to nonprofits, school districts and healthcare providers about trauma and its influence on development and lifespan. Since the team started in 2013, its members have trained more than 900 people.

The team members, who faced competition from other organizations like Dartmouth, were the only youth up for the award, which recognizes programs and individuals working to improve the lives of people with behavioral health conditions.
