The Delaware River Port Authority received a grant totaling more than $4 million to construct a bike and handicap ramp for the Ben Franklin Bridge.

The Federal Highway Administration will contribute $3.78 million to the grant and the William Penn Foundation will add $400,000. The ramp will replace stairs that lead up to the bridge on the Camden side.

Bids for redesigns have ranged from $8.2 million to $15 million. DRPA Chief Engineer Michael Venuto says they hope to find a firm to design the ramp at a lower cost.
